SAC 2026/2027 elections: Process and timing

9/22/2026

Picture
Are you interested in joining SAC as a voting member?

We hope you are! The more voting members we have, the better our council can represent the needs of our school community.

Per Dovercourt SAC's bylaws, our council must have at least five parents or guardians as voting members.

What does it mean to be a voting member of SAC?
  • You can put forward and vote on motions for SAC initiatives..
  • You get to make a direct impact in how SAC supports Dovercourt.
  • You attend SAC meetings (whenever possible—we know life can get in the way).
  • Being a voting member does not mean you have to take on a leadership role (though of course you are welcome to do so).
  • You do not need any previous SAC experience to be a voting member. Only a commitment to contributing!

Our council's process for determining voting members will be a little different this year than it has been in the past. It will involve three steps:

Step one: Nominations (deadline: Sept. 29th)

Per TDSB guidelines, potential voting members of SAC must submit a nomination, in writing, to the school principal at least seven days ahead of the election.

You can nominate yourself, or another Dovercourt parent/guardian.

The deadline for all nominations is Tuesday, September 29th, at noon. (You can add the deadline to your calendar here.)

There are two ways to nominate yourself or another person:
  1. Email Dovercourt Principal Alan Malolos at [email protected] with "SAC nomination" in the subject line, or
  2. Complete this Google Form.

Step two: Public review (Sept. 29th - Oct. 6th)

One week ahead of our elections, Alan Malolos will share a list of all nominated individuals with the school community, via email.

Step three: Election (Oct. 6)

At the October 6th SAC meeting, attendees will have a chance to anonymously vote on all voting SAC members.

The meeting will take place Tuesday, October 6th, at 6:00pm in the Dovercourt P.S. staff room. Childcare will be available. (You can add the meeting to your calendar here.)

Once voting SAC members are confirmed, attendees will vote on SAC leadership roles, including executive positions (Chair/Co-Chair, Treasurer, and Secretary.) You can see a full list (and descriptions) of open leadership roles here.

At the end of this meeting, we will have elected both SAC leadership roles and voting members-at-large, for the school year. Then we can get to work!

A rewarding opportunity

We hope you'll consider joining SAC as a voting member. It's a great and fulfilling way to give back to our school—and to build community with fellow parents and caregivers.

If you have any questions, please email us at [email protected].

Notice of proposed amendment to Dovercourt SAC bylaws

9/21/2026

At Dovercourt SAC's September meeting, a motion will be put forward to amend our SAC Bylaws.

The proposed amendment applies to the language surrounding SAC membership, as detailed under the sub-heading "Membership."

The proposed amendment changes this sentence:
School Council composition will include 5 parents/caregivers (as defined in Ontario Regulation 612/00), the Principal, one teacher, one non-teaching staff, one community representative and a student representative at the secondary level, to be appointed by the Student Council or elected according to School Council By-Laws if no Student Council is active.

To this sentence (change noted in red, underlined text):
School Council composition will include at least 5 parents/caregivers (as defined in Ontario Regulation 612/00), the Principal, one teacher, one non-teaching staff, one community representative and a student representative at the secondary level, to be appointed by the Student Council or elected according to School Council By-Laws if no Student Council is active.

Please see the full meeting agenda here.

If you have any questions or concerns, please email us at [email protected].

SAC elections: Open leadership roles for 2026/2027

9/11/2026

Picture
Want to help shape Dovercourt's School Advisory Council (SAC) this year?

Volunteering in a leadership role within SAC is a fun and rewarding way to connect with, and give back to, our school.

SAC will be holding elections for leadership roles at the October SAC meeting, taking place on Tuesday, October 6th, 2026, at 6:00pm, in Dovercourt Public School's staff room.

The open positions are listed below, along with descriptions. Please join us and get involved!

Good to know:
  • You do not need any previous SAC experience to take a leadership role. We welcome new energy, experiences, and ideas.
  • You can self-nominate for roles, or nominate other caregivers who may be interested in playing a more active role on the School Advisory Council.
  • You don't need to be a parent to get involved. Grandparents, caregivers, and guardians are welcome.
  • Most leadership roles can be shared. Bring a pal and split the job. Many hands make lighter work!
  • The role can be what you make it. Concerned about time and responsibility? Many leadership roles primarily require attendance at meetings. It's OK if you only have a few hours to give here and there. There's plenty you can do.

If you're curious to know more, please come to our meeting on September 21st.

Greetings from Dovercourt's School Advisory Council (SAC). We hope you had a terrific summer. If you're new to Dovercourt: Welcome! If not: Welcome back!

If you're unfamiliar, Dovercourt SAC is made up of parents and caregivers from the Dovercourt community who engage with the school on a variety of issues and activities. (Among many other things, we're the people who organize Spring Fling every year!)

We’re a group of committed and fun volunteers who work hard to make Dovercourt as great as it can be--for everyone in the school community.
All Dovercourt parents, guardians, grandparents, and caregivers and grandparents are welcome—and encouraged—to get involved. It's a fantastic way to get to know other families in the Dovercourt community, and to feel more connected to our school. And the time commitment can be as big or as small as you like. We hope you'll consider joining us.

Please save the date for two upcoming events:

  • First Friday Coffee
Friday, Sept. 11th, 8:20am - 9:00am (Click here to add to your calendar)
Please join us in the West Yard of the school (off Gladstone Ave.) for a free cup of coffee or tea to celebrate the end of the first week back, to meet some SAC volunteers (and our school's new principal, Alan Malalos) and to learn more about SAC!

Come on out to the first SAC meeting of the school year, taking place in the Staff Room at the school. Learn more about what's involved in SAC (and what roles are available), hear from Principal Alan Malalos, and help us plan a terrific school year. Childcare will be available.

We hope to see you at both!

In the meantime, we invite you to poke around this website, or email us at [email protected] with your ideas, your questions, or just to say hello. Together, we'll make it a terrific school year for all!

Yours in Dovercourt Dragon pride,
