Reminder: Education is a provincial election issue

Ontario is having a provincial election on Thursday, February 27th. 

As your School Advisory Council we are expected to enhance the accountability of the education system to parents and caregivers.

Facts:

• Ontario’s Ministry of Education funds all public elementary and secondary schools in the provinces. It is responsible for how much money our schools and students receive.
• The Ministry also:
  • Establishes guidelines for all schools;
  • Sets policies for the Education Quality and Accountability Office (which tests students on math, reading, and writing);
  • Develops programs and policies for child case and early years programs, including Early ON; and
  • Finances, licenses, and inspects licensed child care providers. 
    
    

The School Board Trustee works with the funds allocated by the province to establish local policies, set budgets, allocate resources, and support student achievement.

Education is very much an election issue.

​How to vote:

If you’re eligible and registered to vote, you can do so in two ways:

• Via advance polls (from February 20th to February 22nd)
• ​On election day (February 27th)
